A mesmerising adventure full of wit, danger and incident.
It is now 20 years since Scheherazade seduced the tyrannical King Shahriyar, since she spun her stories for 1001 nights, saving not only her own life but the lives of every other woman of her generation. She is a queen, beautiful, loved by all, a hero to all women and the real ruler of the kingdom.
The year is AD 806, the year snow fell on Baghdad, and the year Scheherazade and Shahriyar make their first visit to the city. As does a monk, travelling from Sicily, clutching a scrap of an ancient prophecy about a storyteller. A monk destined to share a prison cell with an ill-assorted band of sailors, down on their luck and looking for work.
Then from under the Caliph of Baghdad's nose, Scheherazade is kidnapped. And once again she must spin a story to save her life....

- Scheherazade returns. A couple of decades after her tales not only saved her life but also the lives of hundreds of virgins, she and her hubby travel to the exotic Baghdad of more than a millennium ago. (No spoilers here.)She gets off her elephant, dazzles all, takes a bath and (gasp) she is abducted! Much wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth follow before a most unlikely group of rescuers is sent to find her. Prophesies, Bedouins, cut-throats, magic and a new tale from Scheherazade fill O'Neill's book. The pages seemingly turn themselves as we rush to learn her fate. Can she save herself once again? Can sailors navigate a sea of sand? Can carpets really fly?
The answer to all three...will be revealed by page 533.
O'Neill has created a fun and funny story, transporting us into the palace and the alleys of that time and place. This was cleverly written with plenty of cliff-hanger moments and a cast of characters that defies belief.
So, take your seat, don your turban, put your camel on cruise control and go for a fun ride.

Warning to those readers of a more sensitive demeanor: there are sections of this book that can best be described as 'raw'; including explicit sex, gore and strong language - all presented in historically accurate fashion, though.

Scheherazade (Audible Audio Edition) Anthony O'Neill Michael Carman Bolinda Publishing Pty Ltd Books Reviews
I love 'The Arabian Nights'. It's my favorite book, and I bought this happily thinking it was a companion to the great work of art. Within the first two chapters I had to throw it away. The author completely trashes the characters of Sharyar and Scheherazade. The great King is now fat, self hating, boring, and very 'emo-esque'. Scheherazade is a nasty, mean, selfish and brutally cruel chit who flaunts her power over her husband unnessisarily. The author show horns femministic vaulse into a world when where it doesn't belong. If you like the original source material, DO NOT BUY THIS. It is a horrible insult to the original novel.
